Early life

He was born Inaki Williams Arthuer on 15 June 1994 in Bilbao, Spain, to Ghanaian parents, and spent much of his childhood in Pamplona. Football ran in the family; his younger brother Nico would also become a professional, coming through the same Athletic Bilbao academy.

Athletic Bilbao

Williams is a product of the Bilbao academy and has become a club great, making more than 500 first-team appearances. Among his achievements is a remarkable La Liga record of 251 consecutive league matches, a run of durability few players in the modern game can match. He captains the club he grew up supporting.

Choosing Ghana

He made his full debut for Spain in 2016, but in July 2022 he announced he would switch his international allegiance to Ghana, in time for the 2022 World Cup.
