Togbe Afede XIV

Togbe Afede XIV is a rare figure who commands authority in two very different worlds: as the Agbogbomefia of the Asogli State, a paramount traditional ruler in the Volta Region, and as one of Ghana's most successful financiers.

Early life and education

He was born James Akpo on 23 April 1957 in Ho, in the Volta Region. He earned a business administration degree in accounting from the University of Ghana in 1979, and later an MBA from the Yale School of Management, an education that prepared him for a career at the top of Ghanaian finance.

Business career

He founded the SAS Finance Group, which grew into one of Ghana's leading indigenous financial services firms, spanning stock broking, corporate finance and asset management. He also serves as executive chairman of the World Trade Centre Accra, and his interests extend across banking, insurance and hospitality.

Traditional leadership

He was enstooled as Agbogbomefia of the Asogli State in 2003, becoming the paramount ruler of one of the Volta Region's most important traditional areas. He later served as president of the National House of Chiefs, giving him a national platform on matters of chieftaincy and custom.

Standing

Blending business acumen with traditional authority, Togbe Afede XIV is one of the most respected and influential figures in Ghana, a modern chief equally at home in the boardroom and the palace.
