About Akwaboah

Akwaboah is one of the most gifted songwriters and vocalists in modern Ghanaian music, an artist born into highlife royalty who became a hitmaker both for himself and for many of the country's biggest stars.

A musical dynasty

He was born Gladstorm Kwabena Akwaboah Jnr in Mampong Beposo, the son of the late highlife musician Kwadwo Akwaboah and grandson of the highlife legend Kwabena Akwaboah, a lineage spanning three generations of Ghanaian music that shaped him from childhood.

Songwriting breakthrough

He first made his name as a writer. In 2009 songs he penned, including Daa Ke Daa for Becca and Ayeyi Ndwom for DSP Kofi Sarpong, won awards at the Ghana Music Awards, and he was named Songwriter of the Year, an early sign of a rare talent for melody and composition.

Career

He signed to Sarkodie's Sarkcess Music, and produced and co-wrote for the label, including work on Sarkodie's album Mary. Regarded as one of Ghana's finest keyboardists, he has performed alongside international artists including Hugh Masekela and John Legend, while building his own catalogue of soulful highlife and R&B songs.

Standing

Singer, songwriter, producer and instrumentalist, Akwaboah carries a storied family legacy and has added to it in his own right, becoming one of the most respected all-round musicians of his generation in Ghana.
