Kuami Eugene

Kuami Eugene is the self-styled Rockstar of Ghanaian highlife, a singer, songwriter and producer who arrived in the late 2010s and quickly became one of the country's most reliable hitmakers. Blending highlife tradition with modern Afrobeats, he has kept the genre young.

Early life

He was born Eugene Kwame Marfo on 1 February 1997 in Akim Oda. Music surrounded him from childhood; he sang in church and taught himself drums, keyboard and guitar, the grounding that later made him as valuable behind the mixing desk as in front of the microphone.

Breakthrough

His big chance came through the MTN Hitmaker competition, where he finished third in its fifth season in 2016. The exposure earned him a deal with Lynx Entertainment, and he wasted little time, turning early singles like Angela and Wish Me Well into national hits.
