About Amerado
Amerado is one of the most inventive rappers of Ghana's new generation, an artist who combined sharp lyricism with a clever twist: turning the week's news into rap. His work has made him both a chart presence and a genuine innovator in the genre.
Early life
He was born Derrick Sarfo Kantanka on 14 February 1995 in Kumasi. He once harboured hopes of a football career, and channelled that same drive into music when the game did not work out. His stage name, Amerado, means Governor in Akan, chosen to assert his ambitions in the scene.
Rise
He placed third at the Solid FM Freestyle Show in 2015, which brought him to the attention of producer Azee Ntwene, who signed him to MicBurnerz Music. His early single I AM was named among Ghana's top songs in January 2017, marking him as a talent to watch.
Yeete Nsem
His signature innovation is Yeete Nsem, billed as Ghana's first news-casting rap series, in which he raps the week's headlines and celebrity gossip. The concept became a viral sensation and gave him a distinctive identity no other Ghanaian rapper had.
Standing
In December 2024 he became the third Ghanaian artist to earn an Audiomack plaque for crossing 100 million streams. Rapping mostly in Twi, Amerado has established himself as one of the most creative and commercially successful of Ghana's younger rappers.
