He was born Ronald Kwaku Dei Appiah on 19 March 1986. From the Eastern Region and raised in Accra, he first tried his hand at rapping before deciding his real strength lay in singing, a switch that would define his career.

He made history as the first Ghanaian artist to break into the limelight through a movie soundtrack, and from around 2012 built a run of highlife hits that made him a household name. Songs like Azonto Ghost, Brokebi and Mansa established his blend of highlife roots and modern production.
