Mr Drew

Mr Drew is one of the brightest young talents of Ghana's Afrobeats and highlife scene, a singer and dancer whose energetic performances and catchy hits made him one of the standout new artists of the early 2020s.

Early life and education

He was born Andrew Nii Commey Otoo on 10 June 1996 in Accra. He attended Achimota School and the University of Ghana, where he studied music and political science, a formal grounding that fed his versatile, polished sound.

Breakthrough

He entered the music scene through the 2017 edition of the MTN Hitmaker talent show, finishing as first runner-up. The exposure launched his career, and he signed to the Highly Spiritual Music label, home to a string of Ghanaian hitmakers.

Success

His blend of highlife, Afrobeats and R&B, paired with his gifts as a dancer, quickly won him a following. In 2021 he was named Best New Artiste at the Ghana Music Awards and Breakthrough Act at the 3Music Awards, recognition of one of the most promising new voices in the country. Songs like Eat and Later became popular hits.
