About Mugeez

Mugeez is one half of R2Bees, the Tema duo widely regarded as one of the most successful and influential acts in Ghanaian music. As the group's lead vocalist, his smooth, melodic voice has anchored many of their biggest hits.

Early life

He was born Rashid Abdul Mugeez on 1 January 1990 in Tema, the industrial city east of Accra that shaped R2Bees' sound. He formed the group with his cousin, and the two grew up in the same house, attended the same schools, and competed together in school rap and music contests from an early age.

R2Bees

Together with his cousin, now known as Omar Sterling, he built R2Bees into a powerhouse of Ghanaian hiplife and Afrobeats. Taking their name from the mantra Refuse to be Broke, the duo produced a string of hits and albums, and were nominated for a BET Award and featured on Forbes' list of African celebrities to watch.

As a vocalist

Within the group Mugeez is the melodic heart, his singing giving R2Bees tracks their warmth and their crossover appeal. He has also released solo material, showcasing the voice that has become one of the most recognisable in Ghanaian music.

Standing

As the vocal cornerstone of one of the country's most beloved groups, Mugeez has been central to more than a decade of Ghanaian musical success, a key figure in the sound that carried Tema to the top of the industry.
