Omar Sterling

Omar Sterling is the driving force behind R2Bees, the Tema duo that became one of the most successful and influential acts in Ghanaian music. As the group's leader and chief lyricist, he has shaped both its sound and its business.

Early life

He was born Faisal Hakeem and long performed under the name Paedae before adopting Omar Sterling. Raised in Tema alongside his cousin, now known as Mugeez, the two shared a home and schooling and began performing together as boys, competing in school rap contests that laid the foundation for their partnership.

R2Bees

He and Mugeez built R2Bees, whose name comes from the mantra Refuse to be Broke, into a dominant force in Ghanaian hiplife and Afrobeats. As the group's CEO and lead rapper, Omar Sterling steered a run of hit songs and albums that earned a BET Award nomination and a place on Forbes' African celebrities to watch list.

Solo work

Under the Omar Sterling name he has released acclaimed solo projects that lean into introspective, autobiographical writing, revealing a more personal side than the group's anthems and confirming his standing as one of the country's finest lyricists.
