Sonnie Badu

Sonnie Badu is one of the most successful gospel artists to emerge from Ghana, a worship leader, songwriter and pastor whose reach extends across Africa, Europe and the United States, and who is known to his followers as the Apostle of Worship.

Early life

He was born Emmanuel Kwaku Deegbe on 9 November 1982 in Accra, the son of a preacher, and began playing drums in his local church at the age of five. Music and ministry were intertwined in his life from the very beginning.

Music career

He built an international career as a gospel singer and worship leader, releasing a large catalogue of worship songs and hymns and performing around the world. His work earned him honours including a BEFFTA award for best gospel artist, and he has been recognised on international gospel stages, with Grammy consideration among his accolades.

Ministry and scholarship

He is the founder and lead pastor of RockHill Church in Atlanta, Georgia, and holds advanced theological qualifications. He also serves as a United Nations ambassador of sacred music, a role that reflects the global scope of his ministry.
