Yaw Dabo

Yaw Dabo is one of Kumawood's most recognisable stars, an actor whose small stature and big comic timing made him a household name, and who has since become as well known for developing footballers as for making films.

Early life

He was born Samuel Nana Yaw Dabo on 6 May 1998. Raised in Koforidua by a single mother, he moved to Kumasi at fifteen to chase a career in acting. His size initially made it hard to break into the industry, until fellow actor Kwaku Manu helped introduce him to the Kumawood scene.

Acting career

Once in, he became a sensation. Known for his comedic performances, he has featured in more than 150 Ghanaian films and become one of the most familiar faces in Kumasi-based cinema, proof that a distinctive screen presence can outweigh conventional leading-man looks.

Football academy

Away from film, Dabo has poured his earnings into football. He founded the Dabo Soccer Academy in Kumasi, which trains young players across several age groups, and owns teams in the junior colts divisions, turning a childhood love of the game into a genuine development pipeline.

Standing

Popular, entrepreneurial and widely admired for his work with young footballers, Yaw Dabo has built a career and a reputation that reach well beyond the comedy roles that first made him famous.
